HOLY CROSS : Bedford

Palm Sunday - 2015

It was wonderful to have a real donkey for our Palm Sunday procession. He was particularly popular with children and remarkably well behaved.

There was a good turnout of about 50 people from churches linked to Goldington Churches Together, comprising Holy Cross RC Church, St Mary’s (C of E) and Priory Methodist Church. Around 20 participants were from Holy Cross. The afternoon started with Bible readings and hymns outside Tesco in Goldington. Local shoppers stopped to listen to what was happening before continuing with their shopping. The donkey caught their attention too!

Minutes earlier it had been pouring with rain, but fortunately it became dry as the procession set off. We moved to the war memorial on Goldington Green, following the donkey and carrying palm crosses. Here there was a short service of Bible readings and Easter hymns.

It was a good opportunity for people from St Mary's, Priory and our parish to come together in a sign of public witness. This pleasant occasion went well - especially as it was the first time we had done this.
